Many people have all but given up on email. They have moved on to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. The days of sending an email to customers is coming to an end if you listen to some. Well they are wrong, email is still a very important part of marketing your business.

Email is a way of marketing your business that is free. ( Well besides the cost of your internet service, but you would be paying for that anyway). You can send customers pictures, newsletters, documents, and many other types of attachments.

Email also allows your customers and clients to contact you. Customers like knowing if they have a question they have a way of contacting the company. Having your business’s email address on the website is a great customer service tool.

Businesses can use email to send courses to customers and clients. These email course would relate to their field of business. For example a person who blogs for money could write a course on starting a blog, tips on making money with a blog, how to choose a niche for your blog, and so on. These courses are usually broken down into several days. Included in the course would be subtle links for your company.

While social media sites are on top right now there is still a huge place in marketing for email. Email allows you to send a message without conforming to 140 characters or being afraid your message will come across as spam to your friends on these sites. The people you are emailing will have signed up to get a message from you.

Don’t be so quick to give up on email as a form of marketing your business.

Good article. I had tried e-mail marketing briefly a few years ago and I plan to get back to it very soon again. It can be still quite fruitful if done properly. Like for anything else, be accountable to your customers, post regular updates but don't bombarb them with e-mails at the same time. Also, don't use underhanded tactics to get more people to read your mails.

I do not agree with the view that email marketing will ever loose its importance in marketing. I remember, when TV media came into play, some started saying, print media will soon be outdated. After over 30 years, electronic media is playing its role but print media is where it was positioned earlier and the habit of people reading newspaper first thing with the breakfast has not changed. On the contrary, I am from the print media and can say, it has grown many folds.Look at the no of pages and no of news papers being introduced? It is still a strong media.

When Color TV s came, it was said that the big screen movies will have problems because no one will go to see movies in theaters. What is the situation? Theaters are full as usual.

Same was the argument about when Pc s came into offices. But nothing has changed because every medium has its own power and so very important strategic place in the marketing plans. Yes, technology is changing fast and giving an edge to marketing professionals in every media.

Everything finally depends on the target group you are looking for and habits of people.

Social networking and social marketing also has its own limitations and needs to be used very thoughtfully to get desired results.

So, email marketing will stay and will be powerful tool in future marketing options also. You will need to use every medium judiciously for getting optimum results meeting your marketing goals. That's it.
