Myth Busting Affiliate Marketing
Skimlinks is a service that turns an ordinary link to a product into an “affiliate marketing link” that generates revenue. This UK startup wants to revolutionize the affiliate model by giving publishers access to affiliate programs of thousands of merchants from a number of affiliate networks. Each time a user clicks through and makes a purchase, the website earns a commission from the retailer. With Skimlinks, a publisher can decide which links should be affiliate ones or not. The publisher earns money from content via affiliate fees and Skimlinks takes a 25% cut of the commissions.
The startup is introducing a clever discovery tool for publishers to search for affiliate links by keyword. The new desktop tool, called a Skimkit, is powered by Adobe AIR and is basically a live searchable database of millions of products from Skimlinks merchants. The tool allows publishers to research, find and link to products they are writing about, with instant access to deep links and image URLs.So, If a website publisher is searching for a link for a black purse, the user can search for black purse on the Skimbit. Results will be displayed from retailers who have affiliate programs for links. Skimkit also features a service that generates shortened links for use in Twitter and email newsletters. SkimKit is offered for free to Skimlinks publishers.
Born from Skimbit, Skimlinks is already being uses as a monetization service on more than a half million sites worldwide and has raised a total of $2.5 million in funding. Publishers using the affiliate service include Elle.com, The Daily Mirror, and a number of fashion blogs and sites.

So this may be mainly for the new online affiliate that does not know how to do it otherwise. What I do currently involves hyperlinking my own keywords, to make a clickable link. Then I get the whole commission.
Yes, what your doing is the \”Best\” option…if you have the basic understanding required.
Thanks!
I have to see this in action – affiliate marketing works best with targeted traffic – so I'm not a fan of making random links in my content affiliate links. I find that linking to one product and soft selling to be the most effective.
I am going to look into this more. I can see a use for it on some of my sites.
Interesting. So that is what I have been seeing on some websites. It must be working out well, or people would not keep it up.
Skim links is a great idea – I like to have more control over which links are sent out and so go with plugins such as seo smart links that enable you full control over which links are automatically created.
