Whenever you write a blog that allows comments you open yourself up to receiving negative comments. Many times I am asked if negative comments should be deleted from the blog. Many people will vary with their answer to this question, but here are my thoughts.

Not everyone will agree with you all of the time. People have different opinions, that is just the way it is. If you delete every comment that disagrees with you, people are going to see you as arrogant. They will think that you don’t like anyone that doesn’t agree with how you feel. I would always leave comments from people that disagree with you. Besides these types of comments can spark debates between the people leaving comments and drive more traffic to your blog.

If you get comments that have offensive language, name calling, just plain out nasty I would delete them. Your readers may find them offensive and not return. If the comment has nothing to do with the subject of your post then delete it. There are people known as trolls that find enjoyment by putting other people down. Don’t feed the trolls and respond to their comments.

So there you have it, if the comment is one that disagrees with you, leave it. If the comment is offensive, delete it. Don’t spend too much time worrying about negative blog comments. Everyone who blogs will get one from time to time.
