Will Security Issues be the Downfall of Social Media Sites?
Yesterday WebProNew’s Chris Crum posted an article on Security Issues Holding Back Social Media’s Potential. In the article, he discussed the security threats that affect social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, and how people and businesses are afraid of using them.
He went on to discuss how large amounts of people are not even trying to keep themselves safe while using social media sites. So if the social media sites have security flaws already, and the users are not protecting themselves, what can the future hold for social media?
Will more companies block social media sites from their employees? Will people get tired of having their personal information sold to other companies by social media sites? Maybe the social media sites will wake up and fix the security flaws. Maybe they won’t and its users will get fed up and stop using them.
Social media sites have such a large potential for businesses to reach millions of people. All the social media sites need to do is realize the importance of their users feeling secure while using the sites. Users want to know they are not going to be tracked or have their personal information sold to anyone. They want to know when they are on social media sites that they are protected from hackers trying to gain access to their account. They want to feel safe when clicking on a link their friend has shared.
Everyone knows that there will always be unscrupulous people trying to steal information and hack into social media sites. However, we also need to know the social media sites are going to be on the lookout for this and do whatever they can to protect their users.
What do you think the future of social media sites are if they do not step up and provide better security to its users?
