Yes I know, more mobile web news. This is something you need to pay attention to if you want your small business to grow and thrive. According to a recent study done by Pew Research Group, 47% of all adults that own a cell phone or tablet view their local news on their mobile device. Here is a specific break down of what local news mobile users view on their cell phones. According to the study, 42% of all adult cell phone users use their mobile devices to get weather reports. 37% of all adult mobile phone users got information about local business and restaurants via a mobile device. 19% get local coupons via their mobile devices. There were some other stats on the report that were not really relevant to this article. Another interesting fact about adults with cell phones is that they are actually not all that affluent. According to the study, 19% of Americans with local mobile phone apps had an annual income of $75,000 or more. Meanwhile 12% of Americans with an annual income of $30,000 or more had local mobile phone apps.

Now I know what you are probably thinking. Well that’s nice, but what does that have to do with me? I’m just a small online business. How can I benefit from this information? It’s really quite simple. All of this data just proves one thing. You have to find a way to get your offer in front of mobile phone users if you want to reach the majority of adults.

You may have to design a mobile ready site to get this accomplished. You could get your offer onto one of the local mobile coupon sites such as groupon. You could even do something as simple as get the cell phone numbers of the people that subscribe to your email list and send them offers via text message. Of course you do have to make sure you get the permission of the mobile user before you randomly start sending out text messages. You also need to provide an easy way for people to opt out of your marketing campaign.

So how is your business going to use mobile marketing?
Tell us in the comment section below.
Don’t forget to tell your friends about this blog post.

Amazon.com had indicated they will be offering a free usage tier for its Amazon Web Services. With this announcement, Amazon takes a giant step from establishing themselves as a retailer-only, to a retailer also doing business as a technology company.

Effective November 1, all new AWS users will be offered a myriad of free services, all good for one year. The services range from 750 hours of Amazon EC2 Linux Micro Instance usage to 100,000 requests of Amazon Simple Queue Service. This free AWS tier signals Amazon’s heightened interest in web technologies, and is hoping to catch developers early as it works to expand its web footprint. These free services may lead to the start-up for fully-functioning companies.

Analysts are saying this could lead to a definite shift in Amazon’s business direction. What do you think? Will you take advantage of the free AWS services?

Google has announced a new beta feature aimed at making life a lot easier for Google Analytics users. “In-Page Analytics” will allow users to stop dealing with the less sophisticated tools currently available and keep them from juggling tabs.

The beta program will replace the current “Site Overlay” system and give users the ability to see data superimposed right over different products or design elements. Users will be given a lot of options for fine-tuning the readouts and viewing more details.

As the program is still in beta, users should keep in mind that not everything may work as smoothly as it should. However, because it’s beta, users are asked to give their feedback and suggest improvements. Users should introduce themselves to this simplified program now so they’re ready to go once the holiday shopping season comes around.

Those who make their living by blogging are often plugged into the internet no matter where they are. Thanks to wireless devices, anyone can get online just about anywhere. So for those who enjoy traveling, it is getting easier and easier to update blogs and websites with new content all the time. No matter whether you are at your home office or lounging on the deck of a cruise ship, you can easily update your blog and other websites. The problem is that when you get new videos, it can be difficult to upload them without a desktop or laptop. You could end up finding yourself having to wait until after your vacation to share with your readers.

If you have an iPhone, it just got a lot easier to upload new video to your blog and websites. Automattic has submitted the latest WordPress update for iPhone and now video uploading is officially supported.

A slightly new UI, or user interface, also comes with the new WordPress iPhone app. The new UI will allow you to sign up for an account on WordPress.com easily, directly from the app, without having to use a laptop or desktop.

Video clips can be uploaded right to your self-hosted blog. You don’t have to use third-party websites like YouTube anymore. On the move and see something your readers would like to see? You can capture video straight from your iPhone with this app. You can also upload from your library, so you can capture a video, then upload it later, all from your iPhone.

Multiple videos can also be uploaded to each post. If you are uploading a large file, you may find that you have to wait a little bit before the video will finish uploading. Also, remember that videos will be uploaded in their “native state,” meaning the hard file itself. So make sure you use it for personal sites, or else your host could get angry at you for using up bandwidth.

This makes it a lot easier for bloggers to keep fresh content on their sites from anywhere. Going to a convention? Share a video with readers while you’re there! Going deep sea fishing for vacation? Keep an eye on your affiliate marketing blog and upload new videos while on your boat.

The possibilities are limitless. Are you planning to take advantage of this?

Google Maps on the mobile 4.5 for Android has just got an upgrade. Google has introduced a new feature called Walking Navigation for Google Maps. This is a great combination of the existing Navigation on Android phones and the new features for walking directions. If you have an Android you can now use the Street View smart navigation or you can use the new Google Maps search bar.

When using Walking Navigation you will be able to use GPS navigation and get walking directions that give you a more direct path and will even tell you where there are pedestrian pathways. That is, if Google knows about them.

To try this, all you have to do is choose ‘walking’ from the Navigation icon. There are a few new changes that will help you get where you need to go. For example, the phone will vibrate whenever you need to turn. Vocal guidance can be turned off and you can just rely on the vibrations, letting you have a conversation or enjoy the sights around you. The map will rotate with you whenever you turn the phone and the satellite view is used by default in walking mode. You can even use it like a virtual compass thanks to the satellite imagery and you can look ahead or pick out landmarks along your route.

Keep in mind that the new Walking Navigation is still in beta so you may not always get the best information. It will improve over time though.

The Google Maps Search Bar appears at the top of the map and you can open Google Places, search, find your location, or use the layers menu. Search results can be filtered by ratings or by distance, you can view prices, and you can even see cross streets.

To get this new Walking Navigation, you will have to update Street View on Google Maps. Do you plan on giving it a try?

Consumers have an infinite number of choices, making it hard for them to know what they really want. There can be such a a thing as too much choice. Companies have recognized this and several sites are tooled to assist consumers with what they really want. And most of the time, the recommendations are spot-on. Remember making your first purchase from Amazon.com, and logging back into the site to find “recommendations” based on your purchase history? Expand on that to all parts of your life and you’ll see where this intuitiveness has gone. Here are 4 of the newest and most useful sites for answering that timeless question, “What do I want?”

www.cookthink.com. Consider it a recipe-building site. Users indicate what they’re craving, and the site builds a recipe for them, based on their answers.

Beetv.com. The site recommends TV shows and movies based upon the devices used, user preferences, and user likes and dislikes. It allows users to filter results based on rating, genre, HD and whether the content is free as well as to browse TV listings. A free application is available via iTunes, since the site is still in Beta mode.

http://beta.booklamp.org. As the web address suggest, this site is still in Beta mode, but BookLamp hopes to build a site robust enough to help users find books similar to their favorites. Users will even be able to narrow down their search even further and indicate the desired timeline for finishing the book. Signing up now allows users to suggest their favorite books for addition.

www.jinni.com. Jinni works a lot like Slacker Radio or Pandora, Internet radio sites building user-unique stations based on likes and dislikes. Users indicate which movies they’ve enjoyed, as well as other factors like mood, and Jinni makes recommendations for new movies.

There’s good news for finance professionals. Google Finance is now offered for the Android and the iPhone. The mobile version has almost all of the same functionality and features as the popular version that is used on desktops. This means that busy finance professionals everywhere will be able to stay up to date no matter where they are. Google does well about listening to users and when users asked for a way to be able to keep up with the markets while they went about their own busy lives, Google listened.

The market never sleeps but no one can be at their desktop computer every hour of every day. Now those who need to stay on top of the market will be able to check their portfolio, find out the latest in the market news, check on the sectors they are interested in, and even get real time data and quotes all from their iPhones or Androids. You can access Google Finance from your mobile device when you tap the tab that says “finance” on the homepage for Google Mobile. You can also do a Google search for a company name or a stock ticker to access the Google Finance page. Android users can find an app in the Android Market.

Since the market is always on the go, it is important for anyone who has money tied up in the market to be able to find out how things are going in an instant. If you are going to have a busy day and check your portfolio early in the morning, and can’t get back to your desk to check it again until late that evening, you could be in for a nasty surprise once you get back online. If you are able to check your portfolio while you wait in the doctor’s office or in line at your grocery store, you’ll know exactly where you stand and what’s coming next. It’s a great way to ensure that your money stays where it should and that you are always in the know.

In the United States and Canada, organic search results from Yahoo are now powered by Bing. Web, image, and video searches are all powered by Bing on both mobile and desktop devices. More markets are expected to come soon.

So what does this mean for you? While Bing is powering organic search results, Yahoo still powers their search advertising, or PPC, platform. However, they will only power it until later this year when the Microsoft Adcenter will be integrated. You should adjust your holiday marketing strategy because the integration should be finished in October. Your paid search campaigns will need to be able to run on Adcenter. Expect that the pricing for cost-to-click will change as well.

There will be an increase in the paid search inventory on the Microsoft Adcenter as the integration of Adcenter and Bing goes to Yahoo Search properties all over the world. This increase will bring more advertisers and a more volatile auction for clicks. As the inventory increases, you can expect the price of cost-per-click to increase as well.

Bing stands to benefit from a huge goldmine of knowledge about users’ search behavior because Yahoo has been collecting it. Bing will most likely be able to improve their index. End user data about search behavior is important because it sends strong signals to search engines about how they can perfect the search experience and algorithm.

Another change that is coming is in searches done from mobile devices. Yahoo has made a lot of moves in areas such as South East Asia and South America. Bing will benefit from this, as searches done from mobile devices are expected to increase.

It may seem surprising that Yahoo will have Bing syndicating its search results but it really is nothing new. Inktomi, AltaVista, and Google used to fill in the backfill results for Yahoo before it had its own crawler. The combination of Yahoo and Bing will create an alternative to Google for the first time. It is expected to attract more advertisers, advertising budgets, and auction competition as people switch from Google to the new Bing-powered Yahoo.

A recently launched software by LinkTrackr.com is working effortlessly within social media giving affiliate marketers the leverage to be able to share products, services and business information. It is a link cloaking software that they are using on sites such as Twitter and Facebook with phenomenal results.

This cloaking tool generates free traffic to obtain a users activity on the social media sites by giving affiliate marketers a low profile way of linking peoples groups, friends and followers.

Sixty percent of Affiliate Marketers stated in a recent survey that they do not keep track of their marketing campaigns by cloaking links which is why many affiliate marketers will not make very much money online. It makes you wonder why they wouldn’t be using this software.

If you don’t track and monitor all of your affiliate marketing work then why would you even bother because the money is just then slipping through your fingers when you could be cashing in on the market.

Gobala, with 10 years under his belt in affiliate marketing had created LinkTrackr with Super Affiliates in mind. Super Affiliates are making six figure incomes just by promoting the products of businesses. They aren’t smarter then the rest of the affiliate marketers out there, they just know how to track and monitor everything and they know what works and what does not work.

With LinkTrackr the average marketer can have those same sorts of tracking tools without having to invest in expensive in-house software. WordPress can also use the link cloaking plugin that will work with the main tracking and reporting application.

This is very good news for those just entering the affiliate marketing world who can receive a free tip guide newsletter with special PDF reports that will provide more valuable tips on marketing online.

Microsoft is doing some heavy promoting of Internet Explorer 8 which includes brand new TV ad campaigns. They had also benefited from this strategy when they released Windows 7.
