First let’s discuss what Curation is. It is to select and highlight specific media usually grounded in a particular point of view. Media, simply put is various forms of communication whether is be newsworthy or for entertainment purposes.

Today consumers are relying on trustworthy human edited news aggregation and the content curation to sift through their news. Why is this so? Because we can only take so much information or we go on information overload.

Algorithms are widely used and a good way to find information. Algorithms are a set of detailed instructions which results in a predictable end state from a known beginning. However the result could be incorrect if the algorithm is not properly defined.

Give that, it basically comes down to people. Only a person can read something and then gage whatever sentiment is meant by what was written. Think of Facebook and Twitter people read what’s written and either like it or not like it or re-tweet or not.

We are in the world of technology and there is always someone….somewhere and they are creating some form of media so rapidly a single person can not keep up.

Then along comes a curator, a person who will be selective and highlighting usually a piece of work a day. The curators will filter through a huge amount of media and select a small set of contents to present to their audiences. In many cases they do create the content themselves or even hire others to create it or select and promote the works of others.

Until someone creates something better then a human being to filter through all the media we will be at the mercy of the curators who will decide what is worth reading and what is not.
