Have you experienced problems with Facebook’s “Like” buttons today? If you have, it’s not you or your computer, but Facebook, who is now working on solving the dilemma. The problem, which started today, could be affecting thousands of sites around the web. When a Facebook users clicks on a “Like” button, they receive a red error link, and an error message that appears in a pop up is shown. The message states “The page (page URL) cannot be reached.”

A bug report has been filed, and the Facebook developer’s status page shows that the company is working on a solution to this mysterious problem. One of the mysteries is why the bug is popping up at random instead of each and every time someone clicks on a “Like” button. Still, small sites all the way up to giants like CNN.com have been reporting that their web site is affected by this bug.

Web users and developers are upset about the fact that the “Like” buttons on their web site are not working properly. This bug is far reaching, for in just the past few weeks, hundreds of thousands of websites have installed the Facebook Open Graph API. Publishers have caught on to the idea, and more and more of them are using the “Like” button as a way to increase and measure the flow of web traffic.

It was discovered that the error could be repaired on a few posts made on the CNN.com website. If the button text was changed from “Like” to “Recommend”, the buttons worked as they are supposed to. Hopefully, the Facebook developers who are feverishly trying to repair the “Like” button fiasco will try this tip to see if it could be a complete fix.
