Facebook users may notice a new subscription feature while checking out what’s new in the lives of their friends. Available among a select group of users, the feature allows users to subscribe to friends and receive notifications whenever the person they’re subscribed to changes their status, or posts new photos, videos, or notes.
The details behind this new subscription feature are still unknown, but there doesn’t appear to be an “opt-in/opt-out” feature available this time. Meaning that users can’t dictate who may subscribe to their updates. This could be problematic when the user doesn’t necessarily want their boss seeing the new pictures they uploaded after their weekend in Vegas.
Also questionable at this time is if the feature is available to friends only, or if any user could potentially subscribe to someone else’s feed. With all the issues Facebook has had with privacy over the past year, this new service certainly brings into question whether this will help or hurt their reputation.
