Microsoft has released a free security program to keep your PC free from viruses and spy-ware. I like free so I decided to take it for a drive. Downloading the file was quick and easy. You simply select which language and operating system you are using and then the download begins.

Installation was also quick. There wasn’t anything to it. I am used to having to click several times before a program installs. Once the program installed it updates the virus and spy-ware definitions. Again this was quick and painless. After it finished a scan was run on my computer to make sure there wasn’t any current infections.

Another thing I was pleased with is the settings. They are just basic. Nothing to confuse anyone. In fact the basic settings were fine for the computer I am testing Security Essentials on. I have to say I noticed a big improvement with this program when it comes to computer resources being used. I had been using AVG and we all know how it can drag a computer down.

I like that the program is running and I cannot tell any difference, even when it was scanning my system. While this program is new I wanted to share my first impressions. I will be sure to update again after I have had more experience with Security Essentials.
