We all want to make money, but finding targeted prospects for our services and products can be pretty hard. It’s also the best way to get high conversion rates and make sales, which leads to cold, hard cash. If you don’t know how to capture people who are interested in what you have to offer, you’re missing out on some real potential. Let’s take a look at what you need to do in order to build a list that will really make you money.

First, you’ve got to make sure that the list you’re putting together is actually made up of people who are interested in what you’re offering. This means that buying a list or simply capturing a bunch of email addresses is a really bad idea. Make sure the people signing up are there voluntarily. One easy step is placing an email capture form on your website.

We’ve all heard about this method: get your prospects to sign up for something they want. In fact, there are all kinds fo templates out there to help you do it easily. However, there’s more to it than just sticking a form anywhere on your page. You have to know where to put it and how to convince people to sign up. Many people make mistakes here.

To get the people you need for a profitable list, you need to get people’s attention without irritating them. Don’t stick it halfway down the page. Most people skim webpages, and they might not get far enough down to actually do you any good! Place the opt in form in an area of the apge that’s highly visible, and make sure that it’s attention grabbing. That’ll get eyes on it. Without people even reading what they’re supposed to be opting into, you’ll have a pretty hard time getting potential customers.

You’ve also got to write a good header. This is sales copy as much as the rest of your site. That means using words that will entice your prospects. A headline like “See Our Newsletter” will bore potential customers. Try something like “Sign Up For Free Tips” or something related to your industry. Prospects need to know what they’ll be getting in exchange for being on your list, and it has to be something they want. If you’ve got an email opt in form now, you might be surprised by the results you get when you make this simple change.

Next, you’ve got to pay attention to content. You need to give something back, whether it’s in the form of those promised tips, a report, interviews with experts in the field, or something else. Make sure you know what it is and have that content lined up before you start promising it. No one hates anything more than a bait and switch. By making it clear what prospective customers will get, and offering them something good, you’ll find that your list becomes a much more profitable one. That’s worth a little extra effort.
