Tips for Recognizing Online Business Scams
When looking to start an online business you may see ads for businesses that will make you rich without much work. Now seriously, when was the last time you got lots of money for doing hardly any work? Why would someone just give you money for doing nothing? It does not work that way. A business like that is a scam. There are many online business scams. You have to be able to weed these scams out of your business search.
There are several signs to help you recognize an online business scam. Knowing what these signs are can save you time and money. You do not want to have your name attached to a scam. This could ruin your chances of ever having a successful online business.
Signs that an online business is a scam
- Promises of lots of money for little to no work- Again, as we discussed earlier, no one is going to pay you to do nothing. An online business requires work and lots of it.
- Requires you to pay large amount of money upfront-Now businesses do require some startup costs. However, you should be getting something for this money. It is normal to pay for marketing, product, website fees, etc. It is not normal to pay someone to join a business and get nothing in return. These are scams. All you are doing is padding someone else’s pocket. There is no actual business. It works by people promising riches. All they have to do is sell it to the next person and so on. Usually these will advertise that the opportunity to join their company only lasts for a short time. They try to make you think you have to join today or you will miss your chance at becoming rich.
- The business wants you to reship packages. This is a way of shipping stolen merchandise. A thief gets the items using stolen credit card information. They then hire you to become part of their business. They will give you some story how they cannot ship these items themselves. They use you mailing address to ship the stolen items to. Then you have to mail them to some other address. They promise to pay you a fee for each item you ship. If the business makes red flags go off in your mind it is most likely a scam. Other forms of scams like this include processing checks through your bank account. The checks are of course no good. These are often referred to as Nigerian scams.
- No experience needed- How can you run an online business with no experience; it just does not work that way. If you do not have the knowledge in the field of your business how can you make it become successful. The answer is simple you cannot.
Scams are not going to go away any time soon. As long as someone can con money out of an unsuspecting individual, they will. Scam artists will keep coming up with new ways to take your money. You just have to learn to spot the scams. There are plenty of real online business opportunities. You can make a living working online. You just have to sort through the scams.
