Electronic Arts’ (EA) is turning its popular “Madden NFL” video game series into a social gaming experience, now debuting on Facebook. “Madden NFL Superstars” allows users to build teams from a selection of over 1500 player cards, and then face-off against friends for ultimate football domination.
Rather than focusing on the elements that make “Madden NFL” so popular (micromanagement of teams and fine-tuning player tactics), “Madden NFL Superstars” allows users to focus on team management through the collection of team player cards. Early users of the game compare it to a super-competitive version of fantasy football.
EA calls upon Playfish, the social gaming network it recently acquired, to roll out the game and make available for users its virtual currency system-enabling users to purchase additional player cards.
Considering how popular “Madden NFL” is, as well as the increasing popularity for social networking games, EA’s latest foray into the social gaming world should be a huge success.
