A lot of social media work seems to be about branding, shaping the public’s feeling for your company and products, Social Marketing seems to be a longer process. Even Google seems to be shifting their ranking criteria toward social proof in place of backlinks.

I am not surprised at all that Google is trimming the fat, I think they were kinda stretching it with some of their projects.
seo agree Google seems to be king and i don;t mind who is on the thrown but, i do care about how they treat the common folks which is where i fit. I really don't see anyway around it at the moment. Thank you for the post.
I wonder when Google will also shut down Orkut. I understand it's still somewhat popular in a few countries but if I were Google, I'd want to close it down to get more people on to Google Plus.

I think google will always renew and update all websites if those sites are good enough to be indexed in google search engine
