Remember making your first purchase from Amazon.com, and logging back into the site to find “recommendations” based on your purchase history? Expand on that to all parts of your life and you’ll see where this intuitiveness has gone. Here are 4 of the newest and most useful sites for answering that timeless question, “What do I want?”

 

  • www.cookthink.com. Consider it a recipe-building site. Users indicate what they’re craving, and the site builds a recipe for them, based on their answers.
  • Beetv.com. The site recommends TV shows and movies based upon the devices used, user preferences, and user likes and dislikes. It allows users to filter results based on rating, genre, HD and whether the content is free as well as to browse TV listings. A free application is available via iTunes, since the site is still in Beta mode.
  • http://beta.booklamp.org. As the web address suggest, this site is still in Beta mode, but BookLamp hopes to build a site robust enough to help users find books similar to their favorites. Users will even be able to narrow down their search even further and indicate the desired timeline for finishing the book. Signing up now allows users to suggest their favorite books for addition.
  • www.jinni.com. Jinni works a lot like Slacker Radio or Pandora, Internet radio sites building user-unique stations based on likes and dislikes. Users indicate which movies they’ve enjoyed, as well as other factors like mood, and Jinni makes recommendations for new movies.
