Amazon.com had indicated they will be offering a free usage tier for its Amazon Web Services. With this announcement, Amazon takes a giant step from establishing themselves as a retailer-only, to a retailer also doing business as a technology company.
Effective November 1, all new AWS users will be offered a myriad of free services, all good for one year. The services range from 750 hours of Amazon EC2 Linux Micro Instance usage to 100,000 requests of Amazon Simple Queue Service. This free AWS tier signals Amazon's heightened interest in web technologies, and is hoping to catch developers early as it works to expand its web footprint. These free services may lead to the start-up for fully-functioning companies.
Analysts are saying this could lead to a definite shift in Amazon's business direction. What do you think? Will you take advantage of the free AWS services?
