Hulu has recently announced on their blog they will be offering a subscription and making it available to devices such as iPhones and in the near future the PlayStation 3. The subscription will cost $9.99 per month. It will allow CBS to provide content through Hulu as they have previously stated they won’t place their content on Hulu if it remained to be free. The paid revenue from Hulu’s advertising has been stagnant. Earlier this year, Viacom pulled out their Comedy Central programs” The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “The Colbert Report” from Hulu’s website.
The Hulu Plus subscription will offer current and past seasons of TV shows such as Glee, Modern Family, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Office. Past seasons of favorite shows such as Arrested Development, X-Files, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer but keep in mind that Hulu will still has their free side of the service. The Hulu Plus will have availability to those who subscribe Samsung Internet-connected TVs and Blu-ray players with the application ability to be downloaded from the Samsung app store. Hulu Plus service will also be available through 3G, or Wi-Fi on the Apple iPad, iPhone4, iPhone 3GS or 3rd generation iPod Touch.
Hulu hasn’t place any ad-supported content on their broadband-enabled TVs and other connected-like devices. Viacom, and Time Warner have left out connected TVs out of their “TV Everywhere” their online on-demand programming but limited it to just laptops, mobile devices and computers.
I think this is going to interesting and I can only hope they will stop with the advertisements for paying customers.
