It has been the thought for awhile now that Google penalizes a site for having duplicate content. Webmasters have debated time and time again whether their ranking in Google was hurt because of the duplicate content. There was no concise answer, until now. Google has released a new video on the Webmaster Central YouTube channel debunking the myth of penalizing for duplicate content.

We learned from the video while Google is not penalizing your site for duplicate content, it can still hurt your ranking in the search listings. If you thought your site was being penalized maybe you need to go over some of the points they gave in the video about link popularity dilution, user unfriendly urls in search results, and inefficient crawling.

What are your thoughts on this latest video from Google? Were you one that believed in the duplicate content penalty? Are you going to make changes to your site based on what you learned from the video?
